The Science of GHK-Cu
What is GHK-Cu?
GHK-Cu — Glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex — is a naturally occurring tripeptide found in human plasma, saliva, and urine. First isolated in 1973 by Dr. Loren Pickart, it has since become one of the most extensively studied molecules in cosmetic dermatology.
As we age, GHK-Cu levels in the body decline significantly — from approximately 200 ng/mL at age 20 to around 80 ng/mL by age 60. This decline corresponds directly with the visible signs of skin aging: loss of firmness, increased wrinkle depth, and reduced skin density.
How Does It Work?
What makes GHK-Cu extraordinary is the breadth of its biological activity. Research has studied GHK-Cu across multiple biological pathways relevant to the visible appearance of skin firmness, texture, and hydration.
Collagen Synthesis
GHK-Cu has been studied for its role in supporting the visible appearance of skin firmness and elasticity, including research on structural proteins associated with skin resilience.
Tissue Remodeling
GHK-Cu has been studied for its role in supporting a smoother, more refined-looking complexion and skin renewal processes.
Anti-Inflammatory Signaling
GHK-Cu has been studied for its role in helping calm the look of stressed skin and reducing the visible signs of inflammation-related aging.
Antioxidant Defense
GHK-Cu chelates free copper ions that generate reactive oxygen species, converting a potentially damaging element into a precision biological signal.
What the Research Shows
A randomized, double-blind clinical trial demonstrated that topical GHK-Cu reduced wrinkle volume by up to 55% compared to a placebo base cream over 8 weeks. Additional studies confirmed improvements in skin elasticity, density, and overall appearance.
Why Concentration Matters
Cuprite Serum 01 is formulated at 1% GHK-Cu — the concentration used in clinical studies. Manufacturing documentation is available on request. This is not a token inclusion. It is the real dose.
The Natural Blue Color
Serum 01 has a natural blue tint — the characteristic color of GHK-Cu in solution, enhanced by Methylene Blue, a well-studied antioxidant ingredient. Color may range from pale to light blue or slightly greenish — this is normal and does not affect product quality or efficacy.
Note: This page summarizes publicly available research on GHK-Cu as a cosmetic ingredient. Cuprite Serum 01 is a cosmetic skincare product formulated to improve the visible appearance of firmness, texture, hydration, and fine lines.
